International Photo Meeting in Heraklion
One Hundred twenty acclaimed photographers from thirty countries were last month in Heraklion, participating in the second International Photomeeting in Heraklion, hosted by Hotel Creta Maris.
The photographers’ meeting was organized by the Hellenic Photographic Society of Crete, in association with the FIAP, the International Federation of Photographic Art, and the Prefecture of Heraklion.
During the Photomeeting Sessions a large exhibition took place at the Basilica of St Mark; an exhibition of 25 awarded Cretan Photographers. The General Secretary of FIAP, Ricardo Boussi visited the exhibition and expressed his satisfaction on the organizational levels of the International Meeting. He was also happy to see many photographers from several different countries: “the atmosphere is very friendly as it was in Sicily last year, during the 1st Photomeeting. The FIAP is very happy that Greeks will have the chance to see and meet with the artists – photographers”, said Mr. Boussi.
The President of the Hellenic Photographic Society of Crete, Manolis Metzakis also mentioned that many of the members of the Hellenic Photographic Society of Crete are critically acclaimed and successful photographers, internationally known, already with awards and excellences. The successful and efficient track of the Hellenic Photographic Society of Crete has managed to create such as dynamic that it managed to establish a new artistic style and is known today as the “Cretan School of Photography”.
During the Photomeeting, Heraklion was the host to 120 renowned photographers from 30 countries, who exchanged their opinions, displayed and spotlighted their work and met the island of Crete, capturing its beauties with their photographic lens.
All these photographers will become the best ambassadors of promotion and exposure of Crete to the world, according to Mr Metzakis. He also suggested that this kind of events can enhance tourism, amidst a non favorable time due to the overall crisis and the change of touristic ideals and demands internationally.
