2009 Carnival Parade in Souda
The Souda Carnival was celebrated in a festive frenzy of fun, with a grand parade with 10 floats and carnival-goers young and old.
Many floats provided a satirical comment on topical events, and of course there was also the float of King Carnival, which was burned in the main square of Souda after the end of the carnival parade.
The Souda Carnival was back after a 10-year break. As the Mayor Mr Perakis said, “With the help of the two deputy mayors, all the public bodies of Souda, the cultural and sports associations, all the schools, the shopkeepers, local professionals and every organisation active in our municipality had something to show, which is the main thing. We hope that the Carnival will be even better next year.”
After the carnival parade there was a festival which was greatly enjoyed by all the participants.
NOTE. Souda is a small town 7 km east of Chania and it is known for its ferry port.
